Safari with the family
Tanzania is a perfect destination for a family holiday. A combination of an active safari and a relaxing time on the beach is fun for parents as well as kids. Together with our 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son we have done many safaris and every safari proofs again how children love the African bush! Its ground water forest which acts like a giant filtering sponge which gradually releases water so it can flow gently into streams, instead of running off, prevents the soil from eroding. From its high concentrations of animals such as elephant, buffalo and antelopes to its dense forests of Trichilia spp, ficus spp and Acacia spp, the park is diverse with both wildlife and vegetation. With its location at the base of the east African rift valley along the Gregory rift, it offers spectacular viewing of the escarpment. Lake Manyara is one of those national parks which offers rich and diverse game viewing within a reasonably small area. From its thick ground water forest at the park entrance to its more arid acacia woodland in the south. It is one of the best areas for elephant viewing and close encounters are very common. The bird life here is also exceptional. Because of its thick brush and forested areas, viewing of cats is not so common. These exposed rock forms “kopjes” are round as a result of spherical wind weathering. The national park covers an area of 14800 square kilometers most of which is grass plains. These rich grass plains a result of ash deposited by volcanic eruptions, and is home to 3 million animals.
